There isn't a straight line to healthy
We're never 'done' with our health journey
Like most people, I have struggled with body image, weight issues, and sustaining diets my entire life. After spending the majority of my life in small-town Wisconsin I decided to spread my wings and venture to Washington, D.C. for an internship and then to New York City for my first 'adult job'. Through these transitions my weight fluctuated, hormonal acne came like I've never seen before, and so did my anxiety. Finding balance was difficult after starting a job, in a completely new place with no family or friends nearby. I decided to join an online fitness community to help inspire me to skinny and eventually learned that if I wanted to feel good and be healthy it had to come from within.
After a few years of equating what I ate with how hard I needed to work out, I decided I couldn't do it anymore, the mental toll dieting took on me was too much. Soon, I transitioned to a regular gym schedule doing what I loved in the gym (lifting!), then found CrossFit, and transitioned to a paleo type diet. The more I dug into nutrition and tried to understand why people eat one way over another, I decided this was something I wanted to pursue further. That's when I found the Nutritional Therapy Association and dove headfirst into learning the science behind nutrition and how our bodies work with the food we eat.
Little did I know that I also needed to spend some time focusing on my mental state. I was still struggling with anxiety and knew something needed to change so I started digging into self-help books, specifically around mindset. At first, I thought it was a lot of woo-woo before I started incorporating some of the things I learned into my daily life. After about a year of changing my thought patterns, I could feel my anxiety didn't pop up as frequently as it used to, but it's still something I'm passionate about and work on all the time.
Few things make me happier than sharing my knowledge and helping others on their own journey to whatever their version of happy is. I completed my Nutritional Therapy Practitioner Certification and 21-Day Sugar Detox Coach Certification in Spring of 2018 with the goal of using my knowledge to help women learn what foods work best for their bodies and shift their mindset to sustain their health and happiness.
